Coming to America 2 Casts Wesley Snipes & More | Screen Rant

by Mike Jones

Dealing with issues of love, obligation and broadening one horizons, Coming to America followed the journey of Akeem (Murphy) the naive prince of the fictitious African nation of Zamunda. When Akeem turns 21, his father, King Jaffe Joffer (James Earl Jones) tells him that he to be married.

But Akeem is not interested in a bride who behaves like a servant and instead, he asks his parents if he can travel to America in search of true love. Joining him on the journey that takes him to Queens, New York is his wingman Semmi (Arsenio Hall), and together the two discover a world that much different than their own, filled with confusion and challenges.

The film remains a favorite among Murphy fans even to this day, and news that a sequel is on its way has been a great source of excitement for anyone who still loves the original. Murphy has long held a strong respect for Snipes' acting abilities, and this has undoubtedly been a factor in the casting decision. As for exactly what sort of character Snipes will be playing in the sequel, Deadline has revealed that he will take on the role of General Izzi, ruler of Zamunda neighboring fictitious African nation.

By adding Snipes to the film, Murphy has set up a potential onscreen foe, who for whatever reason, might be trying to stop Lavelle from being brought back to Zamunda.
